John Denver was a superstar singer who touched millions through his songs of pop-folk, many of which were based in Colorado. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, the singer-songwriter fell in love with Colorado and later relocated to Aspen. Denver's popular songs about his adopted home state drew many tourists to Colorado. G. Brown of Colorado Music Hall of Fame, the hall's curator of fame, stated: "I don't believe there is another performer that embodies Colorado like John Denver." Denver was a member of the Hall of Fame as its the first member in 2011. Denver has been the symbol of the state to everyone around the world. In my journeys, you meet someone from the other part of the globe, one of New Zealand and you say 'I'm originally from Colorado and the very first thing that comes they say is Oh John Denver! Brown said. Denver's debut Top 10 hit as a solo artist following a brief time in folk bands comprised of Take Me Home Country Roads co-written with Bill Danoff. Danoff wrote the song with Johnny Cash in mind but the moment Denver heard an early version immediately, he realized it was destined to be the next hit single. After the performance to a throng of fans at Washington D.C., the performer recorded the track.
